Happy Guy

The characters from the Happy Happy Joy Joy series have been practically begging to step off the canvas and into the world of 3D. For a long time, they have existed entirely within a flat, two-dimensional space, but their bold lines and signature cut-out features always hinted at a more physical presence.

Happy Guy, one of the most recognizable figures from the series, leads this transition into solid form. These sculptures allow the Happy Happy Joy Joy narrative to finally occupy the physical space around us, giving the characters the weight and tangible energy they were always meant to have.

Studio Integration

While these figures originate directly from the paintings, this project officially brings Happy Guy and his companions into the Rudeboy Creative Studio family. This expansion allows the painted narratives to exist in a new, tactile context alongside the rest of the studio's diverse portfolio.

Material & Process

  • Foundation: The series is constructed from 3D printed TPU plastic, serving as the origin point for bringing these physical characters to life.

  • Refinement: Following the printing process, each piece undergoes extensive surface preparation, including hand sanding and a specialized priming process.

  • Finishing: The sculptures are meticulously finished to resolve surface inconsistencies, elevating the initial form into a fully realized art object.

  • Design Integrity: By shaping these pieces in TPU, the exact geometry of the original Happy Happy Joy Joydesigns is honored while allowing them to interact naturally with light and shadow.

Technical Specifications

The production scope involves creating a twelve inch physical sculpture of Happy Guy, derived directly from the established character designs found in the paintings.

  • Dimensions: Twelve inches in height with a depth of half an inch.

  • Finish: A professional, finished matte surface.

  • Execution: The process moves from digital 3D modeling to TPU fabrication, concluding with detailed surface refinement and a final structural integrity inspection.
